A bit about me

Violin & drums

I'm a violinist of over 20 years with 10 years' orchestra experience, which involved touring Europe. I was taught by the lead violinist of the award-winning Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra. I'm also a drummer of 15 years, and played in the Brighton Percussion Ensemble.

I now work as a solo artist specialising in curating world music concerts, drawing on different styles including Indian classical, flamenco and folk music. I also co-lead a jazz group.

I'm quickly adaptable to and familiar with all sorts of styles, with a specialism for improvisation. I'm a relaxed, easygoing teacher, and I'll adapt my teaching style to fit your needs.

Over the years I've had good teachers and awful, awful teachers. I guarantee we'll have a fun, productive time and get along as equals.

I believe that learning happens fastest when you're actively enjoying what you're doing, so I'll try to make that happen.

If you're learning violin or drums through the grading system, I'm happy to help you work through the syllabus. I can also help you learn your orchestra parts.

I'm an intuitive person, and I believe in the importance of training your ear so you can learn a tune just by listening. I can help you learn how to improvise and explore different styles of music — whatever takes your fancy. Lessons can be however long you want them to be.

Physics, maths & philosophy

I studied Physics and Philosophy at Bristol University, and I've been tutoring maths and physics for 5 years. I have a highly visual way of presenting material — and we'll feel like equals in the lessons.

I'm experienced teaching people of all ages and learning styles, including neurodivergent people.
